With the increasing amount of information patients are being bombarded with by physicians, businesses, hospitals, and marketeers, we wanted to create a page dedicated to an area vitally important and often lost in 21st century medicine: the Art of Medicine.
Dr. Winchell trained at several of the top institutions in the U.S. by some of the most highly respected and published surgeons. His background and education have afforded him Board Certification with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He tries to maintain the highest moral and ethical standards and his mantra is and has always been to do the most good for his patients.
While this allows him to remain on an even kiel with other similarly occomplished surgeons in the community he serves what does it say for his skill as a healer? For this someone would have to ask one of his patients. The Health Information Portability and Patient Accountability Act (HIPPA) prevents him from giving out individual patient names although over half his new patients are referred from established ones.
For this reason, we have compiled some unsolicited quotes from individual patients in his practice to help someone to get a feel for how he is as a healer:
|
"I did alot of reasearch and talked to many people who had knee replacements performed in large metropolitan areas. The personal care I recieved from Dr. Winchell made me certain I made the right decision to have the work done in Savannah." "After about 7 weeks and too many soap operas I went back to work" I had originally thought I would be out about 10-12 weeks, but my knee felt so good I was glad to be back."
" I still have difficulties with my right knee, so I have already planned a knee replacement surgery with Dr. Winchell. I can't imagine trusting anyone to do my surgery other than Dr. Winchell. The knowledge he has for all aspects of his profession makes me comfortable with my decision to have the second surgery. I have no reservations."
"His staff is patient and caring; they go to great lengths to put their patients first. He obviously went to great trouble hand-picking his staff; which shows how important his patients are to him. He takes time to answer all your questions and he does not rush you in and out of his office." "Choosing Dr. Winchell was the best decision that I made. HIs unhurried, caring and compassionate manner made all the difference."

"The thought was running through my head 'do I use the new kid in town or do I choose someone who has been around for a while and done this surgery a couple of hundred times in their life.' After talking with Dr Winchell a few times, I felt he really knew what he was doing and may actually have the most recent training or 'cutting edge' ways to do it. He was very thorough in his explanation to me of the problem and the procedure. I never felt rushed during my office time with him. He made sure I understood everyting about the the (knee) replacement."
"Surgery went well; hospital therapy went well; home health therapy went well and so did out patient therapy. At each level I was told, however, that I was doing unusually well as compared to other knee replacement patients."
"I know that it is only a matter of time before I have to have the other knee replaced, as well, because of osteoarthritis. When it becomes necessary I have no doubt that Dr. Winchell will be the one to perform the surgery." "Dear Dr. Winchell, I cannot thank you enough for the excellent care and for changing my life for the better. You are a true healer in every sense of the word and the world is a beter place for having you practice your craft."

"On my first visit it was decided that I would need a hip joint replacement at sometime, but as long as I could enjoy my quality of life for now, it could be postponed for a while. I found this very refreshing as I was sure he would want to operate as soon as possible."
[Having had him replace both my hips in less than a year] "I strongly recommend Dr. Mark A. Winchell for this procedure and have been more than satisfied with his service and his team."
"It's really impossible for me to express how elated I was with the results I recieved at Dr. Winchell's office. From the original, opinions on knee replacement: conventional or minimally invasive (which was the only system I was prepared to accept) the situation was in constant indecision and conflict (with my previous surgeons.) I feel that this situation has now been totally resolved."
"I was thoroughly and completely checked out at Dr. Winchell's office; examination, x-rays, probing, the works. Obviously, the team went into a lengthy review. Frankly, as previously stated, I am elated with the results I have recieved at Dr. Winchell's.

"Dr. Winchell had explained everything on previous visits, gave me information to study and even let me see the type of joint he would be using"
"Dr. Winchell is an excellent orthopedist, as well as a swell person. I would highly recommend his services to anyone who needs them. His office staff, x-ray technician, nurse, and assistant (chad) are always pleasant, efficient and helpful.
"With a single injection, I am walking normally, discarded the brace I came into the office with and discarded any other support. No pain, discomfort and up to this time, no problems." "I just want to thank you for your care and personal attention. I have never felt so important as I do when I am in your office. You have taken the time to explain to me about my treatment and gave me time ot review information prior to receiving it. I am confident that you will take all steps to ensure that I am relieved of the pain in my knee. Thanks for everything and your staff must be complimented as they are awesome.
