Dr. Winchell been honored by the Arthritis Foundation as the permanent Chairperson of the Savannah Arthritis Walk Charity Fund Raiser.

Dr. Winchell has always believed the expression "don't take more than you give." He have been searching for the perfect way to "give something back to the community that has given them so much." Given the large number of joint replacements performed by him every year and the number of satisfied patients who have encouraged him to increase awareness of arthritis problems, the practice has decided to do just that.

We have made a lifelong commitment to the Arthritis Foundation to organize and execute its local fund raising efforts, possibly starting a local chaper. The foundation is a wonderful organization dedicated to helping those of us unfortunately afflicted with one of the many forms of arthritis, from childhood through old age. It is made up of physicians across the country like Dr. Winchell who believe that clinical treatment of the problem is only the beginning of their responsibility.

The local chapters provide assistance of many types to people suffering from Osteoarthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, etc. Support groups, perscription assistance, physical therapy support, transportation issues and durable medical equipment supply are just some of the ways your dollars can help support the more than 66 million americans who suffer with this quality of life destroying disease. A disease Dr. Winchell and the other physicians in Savannah and Chatham County have pledged to fight.

Event Planning Basics: We worked diligently, with the help of several major local sponsors including St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital System, to bring you the most rewarding and enjoyable fund raising event in Savannah history...and we succeeded.

On September 30th, 2006 we made history.  We had 280 participants (human and canine) get out and raise $10,000 for the fight to find a cure for arthritis.  We had a wonderful morning at Hunter Army Airfield and want to thank all those who participated as well as those who put in countless hours organizing this historic event.  We did even better the following year when we moved the venue to Forsyth Park.

In 2008, we had our best year yet.  We raised close to $20,000 for research and education in the fight against arthritis.  Thanks to the more than 350 people who turned out for the event.  We are already planning for next years event on September 26th.  Mark your calandars early!!!

To get on our information update e-mail list or for more specific questions contact me: mwinchell1@yahoo.com and we will do our best to keep you informed and up to date as we continue our planning.

To find out more about the foundation and what it can do for you and your loved ones with arthritis go to www. Arthritis.org and see what a difference this organization makes every day. Please help us to further their support in our local community by joining us for our 4th Annual Fund Raiser comming up on September 26th, 2009 at Forsyth Park in Savannah, Georgia.  Late registration begins at 8:30. We have taken care of every detail to bring you, your family and your organization a day filled with fun, excitement, activity and education about arthritis. What we need from you is to form teams. If you can organize 10 people or more (pledging $100 or more each) you will get official Tee-Shirts for the event. Fewer than 10 are also welcome and not everyone has to do the same event. Just go to www.2009arthritiswalksavannah.kintera.org to register your team.

We are always looking for new individuals to help us plan for the next Arthritis Walk this fall.  If you have an interest in being more involved with planning/organizing this wonderful event please contact us.  We are currently gearing up for the 2009 walk this fall.    We look foward to having you involved and to help us support a great organization helping those in need with Arthritis in every form.
